Hospital Services

Because of the shorter lifespan of our pets, we stress the importance of an annual physical examination.
Pets older than 7 years of age should have exams every 6 months. Check-ups and preventive care can help alleviate serious health problems if caught early on.
We offer a wide range of veterinary services to keep your companions feeling their best:
Diagnostic and Therapeutic Services: Our hospital is equipped to provide diagnostic and therapeutic services to care for your pets' complete health care needs. We recommend yearly heartworm testing for dogs and monthly heartworm prevention for dogs and cats. We utilize the safest vaccination protocols; your pet will have a program designed for his/her unique lifestyle to avoid over or under-vaccination.
Emergencies: We handle veterinary emergencies during normal business hours. For 24 hour ICU or more serious problems, we may refer your pet to a referral center that provides more specialized services.
Surgical Services: Our spacious, state of the art surgical suite provides for the performance of a wide variety of surgical procedures.
Anesthesia: We utilize the safest available anesthetics and pre-operative testing to provide an extra margin of safety, especially for our older or high-risk patients. Using the most modern monitoring equipment, the patient's vital signs are closely observed during all anesthetic procedures. We are able to accommodate any special needs for anesthesia, and if necessary can refer your pet to a specialist prior to surgery to evaluate risk factors.
Internal medicine consults and referrals: We offer referrals to area board-certified internal medicine specialists who perform ultrasounds, endoscopic procedures, and biopsies to help us with the diagnosis of more complicated cases. We also work closely on a daily basis with internists via phone, fax, and email to manage your pet's special needs close to home.

Radiology Services: Our on-site, modern X-ray equipment provides high quality radiographs to aid in the quick diagnosis of many disorders. We consult with board-certified radiologists regarding X-ray diagnostics when necessary.
Cardiology Services: We provide ECG and Blood Pressure services on-site,and consult with cardiology specialists, specifically the local cardiology group, Chesapeake Veterinary Cardiology Associates.
Dentistry: Our dental services include teeth cleaning and polishing, tooth extractions and minor oral surgery. We work with local veterinary dentists should your pet require more intensive oral surgery.
Laboratory: Our in-house laboratory facilities provide for serum chemistry, hematology, serology, urinalysis and parasite testing. We also utilize commercial veterinary laboratories for specialized diagnostics and consultations, including endocrine, gastrointestinal, pancreatic, and allergic disease profiles.
Permanent identification: We offer microchip identification via the ResQ pet tracking system. This may be necessary for international travel, and protects your pet in the event he/she escapes or is stolen.
Pharmacy: We maintain a complete inventory of pharmaceuticals, vitamins, shampoos, flea and tick control products and heartworm preventatives to meet the needs of your pet.
Individualized Flea and Tick Control Programs: We develop programs for the specific needs of your pet and your own particular environmental situation.
