Senior Pets and Preventative, Compassionate Care

Pets are living longer lives thanks to better quality medical care, diets, and living in closer proximity to their human companions.

Physical exams are recommended every 6 months in pets over the age of 7 years since their bodies age more quickly than people. It is important to catch any problems early, just as in human medicine. Prevention is key.

Please set up an appointment to discuss your aging pet's special needs or any changes you may have noticed. Since pets cannot talk (well, not in so many human words, anyway!) it is important to tell us any differences in behavior you notice as your pet gets older.

Our Senior Care Package is designed for cats and dogs older the age of 7 years. This package includes a physical exam, analysis by cytology of any lumps and bumps, and full bloodwork and xrays. Pets can't communicate the subtle changes they feel due to alterations in organ function or arthritis, but our lab and radiology results can.

Age is not a disease! This means there is no reason to not treat any curable or improvable condition simply because your pet is old by conventional terms. We wouldn't count your pet out of the race simply due to the number of years under his or her collar!

Please call us to discuss our recommended arthritis and joint supplements, geriatric pet vitamins, and the best quality food for your pet.

We also offer holistic advice and acupuncture referrals, as well as cataract evaluation in-clinic.

Dogs can also suffer from cognitive dysfunction or dementia as they age. Please tell us immediately if you see the following symptoms:

  •  Disoriented, gets stuck behind furniture or lost in his yard
  •  Night pacing
  •  Urinating/defecating in the home which is unusual behavior
  •  Staring into space
  •  Not recognizing family or friends
  •  Activity level decreased
  •  Becoming aggressive
  •  Forget how to use the stairs
